If you wish to give a gift of chocolate for a birthday, anniversary, for that special someone, or just to treat yourself, your next trip down Renfrew’s main street is something to look forward to.
J&J’s Chocolate Sensations at 200 Raglan St. S. opened its doors to the public just in time for Old Home Week.
“We thought about it for awhile,” owner Jeff Dick said of his new business.
Dick had been recently laid off, and with his wife having cancer, it would be something to keep her mind occupied as well.
“We felt it was something the town needed and would support.
“And everyone loves chocolate,” Dick adds with a grin. “So how can it not go well?”
“This is a passion of mine,” the new business owner adds. “I enjoy this. It’s relaxing. I’m having a
really good time doing it.”
J&J’s features homemade chocolate.
“Everything’s made right here,” Dick notes.
They sell dark chocolate, and for those with the not-so-sweet tooth, “we have no-sugar-added chocolate,” Dick stressed.
J&J’s also has gift baskets and the Gund Stuffed Animals line.
Another thing available is personal candy bar wrappers for any occasion, birthdays, anniversaries, etc. “You name it. We have it.”
Dick appreciates the support he has received. “Renfrew County Futures and the TD Bank have been a great help to me,” he said.
And despite the short time they’ve been open, staff at J&J’s already notice a number of regular customers.
The staff includes Casey Gaddess, Maurissa Haist, part-time worker Paige Dillabough and taste- tester Sara Dick.
J&J’s Chocolate Sensations is open six days a week; Tuesday and Wednesday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.; Thursday and Friday from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.; Saturday 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.; and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 4p.m.
They can be reached at 613-432- 6767.
Cookbooks: Many people dropped off recipes at the Renfrew Mercury in June and July for Jeff Dick’s cookbook.
