Social Enterprise Workshop

Speaker: Stacey Corriveau, BC Centre for Social Enterprise

This free morning session provides an introduction to social enterprise – businesses operated for community impact, and as a possible means of building organizational sustainability.

The workshop is geared towards staff and Board members of charities and non-profit organizations, and people with a social enterprise concept who are unsure of next steps.

Topics to be covered in the session are:

ü      Social enterprise ‘101’ – What is it? Why do it?

ü      What are the common pitfalls, best practices, and lessons learned?

ü      The legal landscape – brief overview of social enterprise and legal structures available (and special limits for charities and non-profits, with ‘workaround’ solutions)

ü      An objective way to narrow down venture ideas, to ensure a best fit for the organization

ü      Funding the enterprise – self-funding, grants, and social finance

Workshop presenter Stacey Corriveau is the founder and Director of the BC Centre for Social Enterprise. The Centre provides technical advice to community-based social enterprises in British Columbia.
