Renfrew County Community Futures Development Corporation invites you to attend the Valley’s first ever:
“Digital Economy Symposium”
Friday, October 2, 2009 from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.
at Festival Hall in Pembroke
(401 Isabella Street)
Join special guests Matt Wenger, president of OpenGlobal; Larry Dumoulin, Algonquin College Computer Training Instructor; Jeff Dixon, Knowledge Impact in Society Project Coordinator at Queen’s University; and Mitchell Wilkie, Economic Development Manager for the County of Renfrew as they explore the social and economic possibilities of networked technology and introduce you to Social Networking tools.
Come to see an overview of the current broadband infrastructure situation in Renfrew County, including future plans for development. Then, be guided through a fascinating presentation on “Intelligent Communities,” demonstrating just how well a rural community, like the Ottawa Valley, can take advantage of the latest in Information and Communications Technology. After lunch, review some of the research being done in Eastern Ontario and how it relates to the digital economy. Finally, wrap up your day with an interactive session on the ins and outs of Facebook, YouTube and other popular online media.
Tickets are on sale now at the Festival Hall Box Office. Call 613.735.2613 to reserve your seat today. Ten dollars covers admission to all sessions, and includes a buffet lunch.
For more information on this and other Information and Communication Technology related programs, contact the Renfrew County CFDC at 613.735.3951.
This project is funded in part by Employment Ontario, the Ontario Government, the Renfrew County Community Futures Development Corporation, and the Government of Canada.
