Jim Pine - CAO, County of Hastings
Jim has been involved in municipal affairs for 30 years. He is currently the Chief Administrative Officer for the County of Hastings assuming the position in December 2002. As CAO he is responsible for the administrative and strategic directions of the County. Hastings County employs over 850 men and women offering a wide variety of human services to the residents of the County and the cities of Belleville and Quinte West.
Prior to moving to the County Jim served as the Regional Director, Eastern Ontario, for the Ministry of Municipal Affairs and Housing and held a number of CAO positions during the previous 13 years including the City of Quinte West. Before he went to the municipal sector was employed for 8 years by the Ministry of Municipal Affairs in a variety of positions in London and Toronto.
Jim has been an active participant in many municipal organizations and is currently serving his second terms Secretary-Treasurer and member of the Executive of the Board of the Association of Municipalities of Ontario. He is a Past President of the Ontario Municipal Administrators’ Association.
Jim is also the current serving Secretary-Treasurer of the Eastern Ontario Wardens’ Caucus Inc. and the Eastern Ontario Regional Broadband Network project co-lead.
Over the years Jim has also taken part in numerous provincial-municipal initiatives. More recently, Jim was a member of the Source Water Protection Implementation Committee.
Jim also served work as a member of the Water Strategy Expert Panel appointed by the Provincial Government. The Panel was tasked to develop a long term financing and governance strategy for Ontario’s water and sewer sector and their report entitled “Watertight: The case for change in Ontario’s water and wastewater sector” was released in July 2005.
Jim attended Queen’s University, in Kingston, receiving his B.A. Honours and a Masters of Public Administration degree. He also holds the Municipal Clerks & Treasurers designation received from St. Lawrence College also in Kingston.
Jim is a ‘northern boy’ hailing from the gold mining town of Red Lake in Northwestern Ontario. |
