In its simplest form geocaching are caches (“secret location”) set out by individuals and others with GPS units who endeavour to find the prizes contained in the caches. Clues and coordinates are given on the website.
This is a four-season, tourism product that brings together the “knowledged-based” economy/technology and tourism/retail sectors. This regional project had the participation of 8 CFDC’s. The Canadian Ecology Centre was contracted to provide assistance in the project.
The following is the Achieved Results: The CEC provided 9 Community Awareness Sessions to promote the project. The CEC trained 80 people in the National Green Check Program which provides certified GPS training. 29 representatives from the CFDC’s participated in the National Green Check train the trainer Instructor’s Course in GPS training. 135 caches were deployed through out Eastern Ontario, and GPS units were ordered and disbursed equally amongst the participating CFDC’s. |
