| The Snow Country Snowmobile Association (SCSA) is dedicated to providing leadership and support to member clubs, to establish and maintain quality snowmobile trails throughout the region in conjunction with its member clubs and associates. In support of its mission, the SCSA, with financial assistance from the Eastern Ontario Development Program, administered by Renfrew County Community Futures Development Corporation, developed a series of training sessions for its trail grooming operators and volunteers.
Between the months of September and October 2007, the SCSA held a number of training sessions related to grooming operations. Certification in the safe operation of chainsaws, brush cutters and related power equipment was provided to twenty operators during two sessions, while further sessions provided instruction in grooming equipment operation and safety, and equipment maintenance. The three separate grooming equipment sessions each covered a specified groomer type and participants were encouraged to attend those sessions relevant to the equipment used by their respective clubs. A total of 57 operators attended these three sessions.
The SCSA is very pleased with the outcomes and feedback from the training sessions. SCSA operators now have the most comprehensive training in the province. Participants were also asked to share the information they received with their respective local clubs, effectively ensuring that efficient operations continue with a priority on operator safety. |
